IMT MS1 tool steel powder 15–53 µm, 5 kg

IMT MS1 is a metallic powder of martensitic aging steel, designed for 3D printing using SLM and LPBF technologies. It is used in the production of press molds, high-load tools, elements of aircraft construction, and machine-building parts. The material has high strength up to 2000 MPa, fracture toughness, and the ability to thermally strengthen. The fraction of 15–53 microns provides fluidity according to Hall ≥ 16% s/50g, allowing the creation of dense components with complex geometry. The material is supplied in hermetically sealed containers of 5 kg.

Advantages of IMT MS1 powder in 3D printing

  • Conformal cooling. The ability to build internal cooling channels of any complexity, reducing the cycle time of casting in press molds by up to 30%.
  • Dimensional stability. Minimal thermal deformation and absence of grooving of geometric parameters of parts during final heat treatment.
  • Operational stability. Finished components withstand critical mechanical and thermal loads without the appearance of cracks or plastic deformations.
  • Sequential processing. Printed elements are easily subjected to mechanical processing by milling, grinding, and only gain maximum hardness after aging.

Technological properties of MS1 powder

The metallic IMT powder is optimized for layer-by-layer laser melting using SLM and LPBF technologies. Thanks to the high sphericity of particles from 85% and above, the powder mass is evenly distributed on the working platform of the 3D printer. This prevents the formation of pores or voids in the structure of the finished product, ensuring high bulk density and monolithic metal.

After the completion of the 3D printing process, the parts undergo a cycle of aging heat treatment, during which intermetallic phases are released. This allows achieving a balance between extreme strength and high fracture toughness, which is critically important for heavy machinery and tool production.
