IMT 316L metal powder 15-53 microns, 5 kg
IMT 316L is a low-carbon austenitic stainless steel metal powder, alloyed with molybdenum, designed for 3D printing using SLM and LPBF technologies. It is used in the production of components for the medical, marine, chemical, and oil and gas industries, as well as in jewelry and watchmaking. The material is characterized by exceptional resistance to corrosion (salt water, acids), biocompatibility, and the ability to withstand aggressive environments. The 15-53 μm fraction ensures high accuracy in reproducing small elements and excellent surface quality of finished products. The material is supplied in hermetically sealed containers of 5 kg.
Advantages of 316L powder in 3D printing
- Corrosion resistance. Molybdenum alloying gives the steel exceptional resistance to pitting corrosion, aggressive chloride environments, and seawater.
- Extraordinary plasticity. A high relative elongation index indicates the flexibility of the material, allowing parts to withstand significant deformation loads without destruction.
- Full biocompatibility. The material is safe for contact with living tissues and skin, does not cause allergic reactions, which is important for medicine and accessory production.
- Stability of the 3D printing process. Optimal particle morphology ensures uniform application of metal powder layers in the printer chamber.
Technological properties of 316L powder
The stainless steel metal powder from IMT is fully optimized for layer-by-layer laser melting using SLM and LPBF technologies. The alloy composition is strictly controlled, where chromium provides high oxidation resistance, and nickel stabilizes the austenitic structure. A low carbon content ≤ 0.03% effectively prevents the occurrence of intergranular corrosion of finished additive elements.
Considering the technological requirements for working with IMT 316L steel, nitrogen is fully certified and permissible as a protective working environment for the 3D printer chamber. Particle sphericity indicators according to SEM analysis ensure excellent bulk density, minimizing porosity and guaranteeing predictable product strength in chemically aggressive zones.

Applications
- Medicine. Manufacturing of surgical instruments, orthopedic implants, and individual medical devices requiring biocompatibility.
- Marine industry. Elements of ship equipment, heat exchangers, and fasteners that are constantly in contact with salt water.
- Chemical and oil and gas industries. Pump parts, fittings, valves, and reactors where resistance to aggressive substances is important.
- Jewelry and watchmaking industry. Printing of watch cases, complex bracelets, and jewelry with high surface quality requirements.
