Tough 1500 Resin V2 Formlabs for printing impact-resistant functional parts on Form Studio 1

Formlabs Tough 1500 Resin V2 cartridge for Form Studio 1, 1 l — is an engineering photopolymer resin with resilient properties, designed for the production of functional parts, prototypes, and production equipment using 3D printing. The material combines rigidity, flexibility, and resistance to impact loads. In terms of mechanical behavior, it is similar to polypropylene (PP).

Strength, flexibility, and impact resistance

Tough 1500 Resin V2 is suitable for making parts that must withstand impacts, bending, and local deformations without brittle failure. The material's elongation at break is 155%, the modulus of elasticity at tensile is 1460 MPa, and the tensile strength limit is 34 MPa.

The impact toughness by the Notched Izod method equals 42 J/m. The heat deformation temperature is 66 °C under a load of 0.45 MPa.

Thanks to the combination of strength and plasticity, the material can be used for parts that need to maintain rigidity and at the same time deform under load without brittle failure.

Areas of application of Tough 1500 Resin V2

This engineering resin is suitable for making various functional components, including:

• functional prototypes;
• impact-resistant devices and production equipment;
• cases with valves and threaded fasteners;
• flexible mechanisms, fixators, and clips;
• parts designed for repeated deformations.

During cyclic bending tests, Tough 1500 Resin V2 withstands 8000 cycles of Ross Flexing Fatigue. This characteristic makes the material suitable for components that undergo regular bending during operation.

Printing features on Form Studio 1

For printing Tough 1500 Resin V2 on Form Studio 1, a profile with a layer thickness of 100 μm is available.

Unlike Alpha Resins materials, this resin requires the use of a Form Studio 1 Resin Tank Pro. The standard Resin Tank is not suitable for working with Tough 1500 Resin V2, as the material components can damage its film.

The use of Tough 1500 Resin V2 with Form Studio 1 and Resin Tank Pro reservoir is intended for this print configuration.

Cleaning and final polymerization

After printing is complete, it is necessary to clean the parts from residues of unpolymerized resin, and then carry out the final polymerization. For washing Tough 1500 Resin V2, it is allowed to use isopropyl alcohol or a compatible ether solution.

Formlabs Resin Washing Solution is not compatible with Tough 1500 Resin V2. When choosing a cleaning agent, it is important to take into account this feature of the material.

In the Form Studio Wash+Cure system, the full polymerization of Tough 1500 Resin V2 takes approximately 30 minutes without additional heating.
