Cartridge Formlabs Clear Cast Resin, 1L
Formlabs Clear Cast Resin is specially designed for creating engineering components through metal investment casting.
This high-precision resin enables printing casting patterns with up to 25-micron accuracy, making it ideal for parts with wall thicknesses over 3 mm. It features minimal thermal expansion, low ash content, and no heavy metal residues.
The Formlabs Clear Cast Resin 1-liter cartridge is optimized for Formlabs Form 3 Series printers, allowing the production of precise, low-ash casting models directly in-house.
Clear Cast Resin is best suited for larger components and works well with gridding software, enabling the creation of geometries exceeding 3 mm in thickness.
Key Benefits
- Cost-effective in-house pattern production. Print casting patterns directly on Formlabs Form 3 Series SLA 3D printers, eliminating the need for outsourcing. This reduces expenses, shortens lead times, and enhances production flexibility.
- Clean burnout. The resin burns cleanly with minimal ash and no residual metals, ensuring a flawless final cast.
- Low thermal expansion. Industry-leading thermal stability prevents cracking in casting shells.
- High precision and versatility. Print models with accuracy within 0.25 mm, compatible with various metals and shell systems for faster production.
- Industry expertise. Developed using Formlabs’ extensive experience in resin formulation for large SLA printers, ensuring optimal performance.
Applications of Clear Cast Resin
Investment casting is widely used across industries requiring high-precision metal components, including:
- Engine components and turbines.
- Medical implants and surgical tools.
- Dental prosthetics.
- Jewelry and decorative pieces.
- Industrial and complex engineering parts.
3D Printing Burnout Models for Investment Casting
Investment casting, also known as lost-wax or precision casting, is a highly accurate technique for producing complex metal parts. While traditionally done with wax models, modern 3D printing enhances the process.
How Investment Casting Works
A 3D-printed replica of the final part is coated with a refractory material. Once hardened, the pattern is burned out, creating a cavity for molten metal to be poured into. The metal solidifies, forming the final component.
Burnout Resins in the Formlabs Library
Clear Cast Resin is part of Formlabs' range of resins tailored for investment casting.
While Castable Wax Resin is ideal for intricate jewelry, and Castable Wax 40 Resin is suited for larger jewelry pieces, Clear Cast Resin is specifically designed for printing large engineering casting molds. It allows the burning of substantial cavities without compromising the ceramic coating.
