Elevate your investment casting process with Formlabs Castable Wax Resin Form 4 Cartridge, 1L. Formulated with a 20% wax content, this high-performance material offers the reliability of standard casting wax combined with the digital precision of SLA 3D printing. It is engineered to deliver a clean, ash-free burnout and exceptionally crisp details, making it the definitive choice for jewelers creating intricate designs and dental technicians producing highly accurate patterns for casting and pressing.

Unlock Professional Casting Quality

Precision for Fine Jewelry

Create breathtaking pieces with confidence. Castable Wax Resin provides the high green strength necessary to print delicate geometries, such as wire filigree and fine micropavé settings, without warping. The printed parts are robust enough to handle, yet they burn out cleanly, ensuring your final precious metal castings are flawless.

Accuracy for Dental Restorations

Streamline your dental lab's production of fixed prosthetics. This resin allows for the efficient printing of marginal-fitting patterns for full-contour crowns, copings, and substructures, as well as Removable Partial Denture (RPD) frameworks. It integrates seamlessly into digital workflows, offering a reliable bridge between CAD design and traditional casting or pressing methods.

Guide to Dental Casting and Pressing

To ensure optimal results for dental applications, follow this validated workflow for processing Castable Wax Resin patterns.

1. Scan and Design

Start with a digital impression using a desktop or intraoral scanner. Design the restoration in your dental CAD software. For successful casting, ensure copings have a minimum thickness of 0.4–0.5 mm and RPD connectors are at least 1.0–1.2 mm thick. Export the design as an STL or OBJ file.

2. Set Up and Print

Load your file into PreForm. Choose "Castable Wax" and a 50-micron layer setting. Orient the part so that critical internal surfaces or margins face away from the build platform to avoid support contact points. Ensure the resin cartridge is shaken well before printing to mix the wax filler evenly.

3. Wash and Cure

Clean the printed parts in a Form Wash using isopropyl alcohol (IPA, ≥99%) for exactly 10 minutes. Let the parts air dry completely (minimum 30 minutes). Afterwards, post-cure in a Form Cure at 60 °C for 30 minutes. This step hardens the pattern for safer handling and prepares it for the burnout process.

4. Investing and Burnout

Add sprues to the cured pattern and invest using a high-quality phosphate-bonded investment material. To prevent investment cracking and ensure a clean burnout, use the following ramp schedule:

  • Stage 1: Heat to 288 °C at a rate of 3 °C/min. Hold for 180 minutes.
  • Stage 2: Increase to 593 °C at a rate of 3 °C/min. Hold for 180 minutes.
  • Stage 3: Ramp to final casting temp (approx. 871 °C) at 4 °C/min. Hold for 60 minutes.

5. Final Casting or Pressing

Once the burnout is complete, proceed immediately to cast your alloy or press your ceramic ingot according to the manufacturer's instructions. After cooling, devest the ring and finish the restoration using standard dental lab techniques.
