Flashforge Creator 5 3D Printer for Multicolor and Multi-Material Printing

Flashforge Creator 5 — is an FDM printer designed for multicolor and multi-material printing of models and parts, with four independent printheads, a build volume of 256 × 256 × 256 mm, and automatic calibration. The FlashSwap system allows switching between individual printheads without generating plastic waste when changing materials. A maximum printing speed of 300 mm/s and acceleration up to 30,000 mm/s² reduce model production time.

Four Independent FlashSwap Printheads

Creator 5 has four independent printheads that make it possible to work with multiple colors or materials within a single print job. Unlike systems where one feed channel sequentially switches between different filaments, Creator 5 changes the active printhead. As a result, no plastic purge waste is generated during switching.

The system supports removable nozzles. The standard diameter is 0.4 mm, with additional 0.25, 0.6, and 0.8 mm options supported, allowing the configuration to be selected according to the required level of detail and printing productivity.

Automatic Calibration of Four Printheads

The printer is equipped with automatic bed leveling, printhead offset calibration, and automatic compensation. This is especially important for multicolor and multi-material models, where individual printheads must precisely continue forming the same part without displacement of layers or areas made from different materials.

Creator 5 also supports automatic dynamic flow calibration with Auto PA Calibration, which helps adjust material feeding during printing. Printhead offset calibration is performed during initial setup, after hotend replacement, in case of mechanical contact between the nozzle and the platform or model, and when misalignment appears in multicolor or multi-material printing. A full calibration cycle takes approximately 15–20 minutes.

High-Speed Printing and 256 × 256 × 256 mm Build Volume

The Creator 5 build volume is 256 × 256 × 256 mm. The maximum speed during printing reaches 300 mm/s, the travel speed is 600 mm/s, and acceleration is 30,000 mm/s². Creator 5 has an open design and a high-strength frame.

Printing is performed on a flexible steel platform with a textured PEI coating. The platform heats up to 120 °C, while the maximum extruder temperature is 320 °C. The available layer height range is from 0.1 to 0.4 mm, and the maximum volumetric material flow rate is 32 mm³/s.

Process Monitoring and Print Automation

For remote monitoring, Creator 5 has a built-in 1280 × 720 camera at 30 fps. The printer supports remote monitoring and management of multiple devices, so it can be used not only as a standalone machine but also as part of a group of printers.

Monitoring functions include a filament runout sensor and filament tangle detection. Print recovery is available in case of a power interruption. The build area has lighting, while direct printer control is performed through a 4-inch color touchscreen with a resolution of 800 × 480.

For connectivity, USB and Wi-Fi are available, including 2.4 and 5 GHz wireless networks. Orca-Flashforge and OrcaSlicer are supported for model preparation.
