Antistatic Formlabs ESD Resin
ESD Resin parts safely dissipate static electricity and repel dust and powder. It is used to create: antistatic prototypes, reliable custom parts, enclosures for protecting sensitive electronics from electrostatic discharge, tooling, fixtures, and similar durable factory parts.

Advantages of ESD Resin
Leverage two key features of ESD polymer in your production:
- Dissipation of Electrostatic Discharges. Critical electrical components are protected from electrostatic discharge and failure.
- High Strength. ESD Resin has a tensile modulus of 1,937 GPa and impact strength of 26 J/m, making it ideal for industrial applications.
Why Choose a Dissipative Polymer
By using ESD Resin for 3D printing in your production, you can:
- Create affordable, custom production tools with ESD protection.
- Prototype test workflows for electronics manufacturing and produce shockproof parts with ESD Resin.
- Reduce risks and improve work efficiency.
- Enhance productivity on electronics production lines.
- Expand manufacturing capabilities with 3D printing of durable fixtures and fittings for industries like automotive, aerospace, and electronics.
What is Printed from ESD Resin?
Static electricity poses a problem in manufacturing. Materials that accumulate static charge can discharge near conductive materials, damaging electronics and other sensitive components.
Most plastics, including Formlabs resins, are insulators and can store static electricity, discharging it on contact with conductive materials. Formlabs ESD Resin is designed to safely dissipate static electricity, making it ideal for producing durable, custom parts that meet ESD safety standards. Grounding materials like anti-static mats and grounding cables ensure that static charges are safely dissipated.
When grounded, static dissipative materials allow electrical charges to flow through, allowing electrons to travel to the ground. Additionally, these materials are antistatic, preventing small particles like dust, powder, and polystyrene foam from sticking to them, which often causes failure in fragile electrical and mechanical systems. Traditionally, manufacturers protected equipment from static build-up through metalworking, but now you can use 3D printing for this purpose.
Comparison with Other Materials
Surface resistivity measures the resistance to current flowing across a material's surface. The higher the resistivity, the less conductive the material. ESD Resin is more conductive than other Formlabs resins, enabling controlled flow of electrical charges.
